Q: I received a letter that claims my company infringed on a patent related to Bluetooth technology. How should I respond?
A: Bluetooth SIG is not able to provide legal advice to its members regarding patent infringement matters, nor is it able to provide opinions as to patent infringement. We recommend that you contact your legal counsel for assistance and review the Bluetooth Patent/Copyright License Agreement.
Q: We received a demand letter from a company that claims we are infringing on its patents. Can you tell me if that company is or has been a member of the SIG?
A: Unfortunately, due to the large volume of informal requests that Bluetooth receives and the varying interests of its members, Bluetooth is not able to provide information or documents related to patent disputes or litigation without a valid subpoena. Bluetooth does maintain a searchable Member Directory, which can be found, along with general information regarding Bluetooth SIG membership, at: https://www.bluetooth.com/develop-with-bluetooth/join/member-directory.
Q: We received a demand letter [or a complaint in a lawsuit] and need some documents from the SIG. Can you please send me the documents I need?
A: Unfortunately, due to the large volume of informal requests that Bluetooth receives and the varying interests of its members, Bluetooth is not able to provide information or documents related to patent disputes or litigation without a valid subpoena.
Q: Is there a list of patents that can be used by SIG members?
A: Bluetooth SIG does not maintain a list of patents whose claims may cover products that comply with any Bluetooth Specification. Please see the Bluetooth Patent/Copyright License Agreement for more information regarding the license rights granted to each Bluetooth SIG member.
